Blueair partners with UK Child Health Academy to train healthcare professionals on indoor air pollution

Stockholm 13 May: Swedish Blueair, a global leader in air purification solutions, has joined forces with the British Child Health Academy to inform and educate paediatricians, nurses, midwives, health visitors and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) on the impact of indoor air pollution.

Using its expert knowledge, Blueair has worked in partnership with the Child Health Academy and Dave Clarke PhD,MA,Bsc (Hons), RGN/RSCN, Foundation Professor of Nursing at the University of Leicester to design a specialist CPD module which aims to provide HCPs with important information on indoor air pollution, its impact on child health and what actions can be taken to improve air quality.

The launch of this new CPD module is particularly timely; a recent study by Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health reported that children in the UK spend more and more time indoors, with just 68 minutes spent outdoors per day. This study therefore reinforces the health impact of the air within our homes and schools and the fact this must be taken seriously. One of the RCPCH recommendations following this study is the need for clear information to be made readily available to the child health professionals, which is what this module can provide.

Professor Dave Clarke comments, “This educational programme, the first of its kind to focus on indoor air pollution, offers healthcare professionals a unique opportunity to understand the impact of household pollution on the health and development of infants and the growing foetus. It comes at a time when there is a call for healthcare professionals to be able to advise parents and this CPD programme will help them to understand the key issues.”

As trusted opinion leaders, HCPs are frequently turned to for advice and support on various topics. By understanding the dangers and causes of indoor air pollution, its impact on the health and development of infants and the growing fetus, HCPs can educate parents and advise them on how to reduce air pollution in their homes.

The new module, which launched in May 2020, will initially run for 12 months and counts towards participants’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD), which they are encouraged to do to remain in practice.
