På onsdag öppnar två masterutställningar på Galleri Mejan: "O" av Virlani Hallberg, och The Politics of Everyday av Emma Houlihan.

Om Virlani Hallbergs utställning "O" 
"O", a three channel video installation by the artist Virlani Hallberg, is a scenic study investigating both what surfaces and what stays hidden in “normal life.” ”O” examines how notions of normality assume the form of routine, it explores the possibility and impossibility—of intimacy and desire within the "scripts" of the normal. It portraits a triangular relationship between a young, wealthy Swedish couple and their female domestic worker of color and how their inherent power relations shape both victims and perpetrators. The couple and their worker become expressions and projection screens of desires and dreams, in which there always lingers the "other", the uncanny and repressed side of normalitys surface. "O" is a study of whiteness and color, too, interrogating the presence and the haunting absence of history and power relations in a domestic situation and a particular "order". - Anselm Franke, curator, 2012

Emma Houlihan om utställningen The Politics of the Everyday
"The Politics of the Everyday is an exploration of the notion of protest in the late capitalist era. In the work, the artist attempts to explore her own disillusionment and passivity in the light of the international Occupy movement, particularly by trying to visualize differing positions of political disappointment articulated by Simon Critchley in his book Infinitely Demanding. In doing so, she has made a new video work that explores the drudgery of everyday life and questions how the stifling mundanity of contemporary life prevents us from thinking or acting politically outside of the demands of the everyday."

Galleri Mejan
Galleri Mejan är Kungl. Konsthögskolans studentgalleri. Här visas separatutställningar av masterstudenter i fri konst. Som en del i undervisningen ansvarar resp. student för att bygga och installera sin utställning. En kritisk genomgång av utställ­ningen sker under utställningsperioden. Separatutställningen är tillsammans med masteressän ett centralt utbildningsmoment under masterprogrammets sista läsår.
