Helsingborg IT company solves faster credit card application with Open Banking

Ten months ago, the EU's second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) was fully implemented, and many believe that we are entering a new era for private finance services: Open Banking. Helsingborg-based Smart Refill is authorized by Finansinspektionen to develop the new type of services, and is now releasing its second Open Banking service.

The service has been launched in collaboration with Sparbankernas Kort, which, among other things, delivers credit card services to 22 different banks. Previously, each credit card application was handled manually, but after this launch the process is now digital and automated. Henric Ungh, CEO of Smart Refill, says:

- We see a strong trend for consumers to demand digital, simple and fast services, for example when applying for credit cards. Using Open Banking's capabilities, Smart Refill has now developed a so-called Account Information Service that significantly simplifies and speeds up the credit card application process at Sparbankernas Kort, while maintaining a high level of security and integrity.

Crosskey Banking Solutions, a Nordic supplier of banking systems, has participated in the project to automate the credit assessment in the application flow as well.

Since September 14, 2019, the EU's Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) requires banks to make available some of the information they have about their customers. Approved third-party providers may use this information to develop digital services for personal finance in the form of Account Information and Payment Initiation Services. Permits to become AISP (Account Information Service Provider) and PISP (Payment Initiation Service Provider) are issued by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. After authorization, the permit holder is under the supervision of the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. Smart Refill has applied for and been granted both as part of their certification as a Swedish E-Money Institute.

- Both Open Banking and being a Swedish E-Money Institute place high demands on organization, systems, routines and processes. At the same time, it stimulates innovation of services and increases the security of online payments, Henric summarizes.
