The tenth Cykelvasan will run on Saturday, August 11, 2018 along the classic Sälen–Mora stretch. Today, this year's Cykelvasan 90 became fully booked – which means 13,000 registered. The race filled up almost two months earlier than last year, cementing its position as the nation's biggest cross-country bike race. Meanwhile there are almost 2,500 places left in the popular Cykelvasan Öppet Spår.
"We can see, once again, that Vasaloppet engages and motivates people to get moving; that we are a goal for their training in both winter and summer," says Vasaloppet's CEO Eva-Lena Frick.
66,700 people registered for Vasaloppet races during the Winter Week 2018, and the Summer Week in August 2018 could beat last year's record number of almost 31,000 participants (of which just over 24,000 were cyclists and 7,000 runners.)
"It would mean that we, for the first time ever, will welcome over 100,000 participants to our winter and summer races. It feels fantastic and inspiring for all of us working on these races, but above all it's an honour, and we take it as a sign that we're offering good experiences that participants want to return to."
Cykelvasan first ran in 2009. And many participants return, year after year. One possible explanation why so many choose to return is the Vasaloppet organization's constant work to further develop the participant experience. Millions have been invested in adapting the Vasaloppet Arena for the Summer Week, and new gravel roads and paths have been created in the terrain. In 2017 only 5.5 km of the race ran on asphalt, in contrast to the first year, where half of Cykelvasan 90 ran on asphalt roads.
In total there are now over 21,000 registered for the Vasaloppet Summer Week 2018, of which over 18,000 are for the bike races.
