Eco Decking in Singapore. New Trend to Re-Appreciate Nature?

More home owners today have put in much emphasis on building beautiful decks in their outdoor balcony. Due to limited living spaces in new estates, young & affluent home owners are beginning to look for ways to design their homes uniquely from their neighbors; Thus, having an Eco friendly landscape corner inside a HDB flat or high rise condominium has becoming a trend recently.

As society evolves more into becoming a "concrete jungle" and the level of stress grows exponentially among the young working adults, appreciation of nature among the youths has therefore, gradually seen as decreasing. Gone are the good old days in kampong whereby every single household or community has their own garden of trees and fruits in their homes. Having a natural green garden in the home today seems very much far fetched among many home owners who stays in high rise apartments & flats.

However, this is not entirely untrue for the Generation Y home owners today. Gen-Yers are classified as a group of young adults who are born beween 1980s and 2000s, a period where Singapore changes into a metropolition society. This group of young home owners has a different unique approach in living lifestyle. Most of them do not live in homes where nature is within their reach. Therefore, the more they long for nature to be part of their homes.

Moreover, the taste for design and luxurious living also become very popular among the Gen Y-ers than their parents and grandparents. The youths today are looking for more than traditional home interior designs; common flooring materials such as tiles and parquet has become dull as a result.

Gen-Yers are more environmentally conscious about things around them. They are well informed and aware that the global environmental situation places a "domino effect" on the well being of their future generation. Hence, the use of Eco friendly & healthy building materials such as flooring & outdoor decking and Eco habits such as recycling & renewing, thus have seen an increase in trend recently. Building developers and authorities today has also see the need for green buildings in the society. One ongoing initiative led by the Building Construction Authority of Singapore, to promote environmental awareness among real estate and construction sectors in Singapore, is the BCA Green Mark.

In time to come, we can eventually see what we can call it as "Nature Re-Appreciation @ Concrete Homes" among the Gen-Yers home owners in developed countries all over the world. Still, one thing that will remain unchanged will be the increasing numbers of high rise buildings and architecture around us; however, the cultivation of Eco living lifestyle will increase exponentially as well.
