Press release -

Swedfund selected to the UN PRI Leaders’ Group 2019

For the first time The UN PRI has launched a Leaders’ Group to highlight leading practices in Responsible Investing. Together with 47 other institutional investors, Swedfund has been selected amongst more than 2,300 signatories.

Through the Leaders' Group PRI wants to showcase best practices and inspire other investors in their work with principles for responsible investments regarding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues. The 2019 theme is about investors' selection, appointment and monitoring of external managers, in private and listed equity.

-We are proud to be recognized in this group for our active and responsible ownership through our funds. This shows how investors have an important role to play when it comes to influencing funds to be more sustainable and contribute to accelerating Agenda 2030, says Maria Håkansson CEO at Swedfund.

When identifying the Leaders’ Group, PRI assessed signatories’ annual PRI reports and took into account level of transparency, ESG practices across all asset classes and approach to strategy and governance, in line with the principles for responsible investments.

Five Swedish investors have qualified in the group, as well as three European Development Finance Institutions (EDFIs), including Swedfund. PRI has produced a report which summarize trends in the Leaders’ Group’s responsible practices and refers to each signatory’s PRI Report.

About The PRI

The United Nations-supported PRI initiative is the world’s leading network for institutional investors working to put the six Principles for Responsible Investment into practice regarding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues.

In implementing the Principles, signatories contribute to the development of a more sustainable global financial system. The PRI provide a voluntary reporting framework by which all investors can incorporate ESG issues into their decision-making and ownership practices and so better align their objectives with those of society at large. Since its inception in 2006, over 2,300 investors have become signatories, with over 85 trillion USD assets under management.

Principle 1: We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
Principle 2: We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
Principle 3: We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
Principle 4: We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
Principle 5: We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
Principle 6: We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.
