Malta developing national strategy for Artificial Intelligence

On the 2nd November, at the Malta Blockchain Summit, Junior Minister for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Hon Silvio Schembri announced Malta’s vision towards developing Artificial Intelligence. Malta’s recent efforts have established the country as a leader within the Blockchain industry, where it is being recognised as the Blockchain Island. Through the policy envisaged, Hon Schembri hopes that Malta will also place itself in a leading position in the world in relation to Artificial Intelligence.

Malta’s Efforts

The vision takes into consideration the key issues within the industry, ensuring that the proposals by Malta would be ethically aligned, transparent and socially responsible. The task force responsible for the development of this industry must identify the proper way forward to develop the technology in such a way as to bring about the improvement of the services available to citizens. Another aim is to make Malta attractive as the ideal hub for foreign investment in Artificial Intelligence. .

The sustainable and ethical development of this sector will create an environment in which the rapidly-developing industry may continue to flourish whilst as the same time protecting its consumers from risks and challenges.

The attitude adopted by Malta to promote to the latest developing technologies is built on bringing together contributors both from the academic world as well as business and entrepreneurs. Following this successful approach to Blockchain, Hon Schembri has also made it a point to invite interested parties from all over the world to further contribute to the proper development of Artificial Intelligence in Malta.
