Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ crew raise £3,000 in memory of much-loved dancer, Faye Knowles-Chapman

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ kind-hearted crew have raised £3,000 for The Faye Knowles-Chapman Foundation. The Foundation has been set up in memory of Faye Knowles-Chapman, from West Yorkshire, who worked on board Braemar as a dancer with Explosive Productions from 2008 to 2011, before sadly losing her battle with cervical cancer on 30th March 2013, aged just 27 years old. Faye, who was an only child, completed her last contract with Fred. Olsen in October 2011, when it was confirmed that her cancer had returned.

The Faye Knowles-Chapman Foundation has been set up by Faye’s parents, Eileen and Richard Chapman, to raise awareness of cervical cancer, with the ultimate aim of getting the minimum age of cervical screening lowered.

Jackie Probert, Deputy Cruise Director on Fred. Olsen’s Black Watch, and Valerie Ruts, Guest Relations Manager on Balmoral, both completed sponsored 10-hour walks around their respective ships to raise the majority of the £3,000, which has been donated directly to the charity.

Mrs. Sherry Crowther of The Faye Knowles-Chapman Foundation said:

“We are extremely thankful for the generous donation from the crew on board Black Watch and Balmoral and obviously a very special thank-you goes to Jackie and Valerie. This fantastic contribution will help us in our mission to raise awareness of the importance of cervical screening and to support as many young women as we can, who are sadly in the same position as Faye.”

Helen Bennett, Entertainments Manager of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“We are very proud of the commitment and support that our crew have shown towards The Faye Knowles-Chapman Foundation. Faye was a very talented and popular member of the Entertainments team and was much-loved by her fellow crew members and our guests. She was a perfectionist on the dance floor and delivered every performance with enthusiasm, high energy and the utmost precision. Our thoughts are with her family, partner and friends.”

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we are very proud of our smaller ships – Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral - and the imaginative and unusual itineraries they allow us to offer. Every cruise is hand-crafted from scratch by our team of in-house Journey Planners to make sure you are not only visiting the best destinations, but at the best time to experience them.

For us, it’s not just about where we go but how we take you there. We put as much time into planning scenic cruising as we do in choosing the destinations themselves. On board, our Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you’ll visit – from Treats of the Region, where you can enjoy local delicacies, to our Sky at Sea star-gazing sessions where you can relax with a hot toddy out on deck while our astronomer talks you through the night sky.

Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough for us to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble, as we visit a host of exciting ports in every corner of the globe.
