Elstree station celebrates Christmas… with Star Wars tree
The Elstree & Borehamwood station Christmas tree was given a Star Wars twist by Thameslink station manager James Gillett, who styled his tree as Darth Vadar complete with mask, light sabre, cape and caption reading “I find your lack of tinsel disturbing”, achieving the rare feat of having commuters chuckling in the morning.
James said:
“The idea came to me as I have a black tree and after learning recently that the first Star wars trilogy was filmed at Elstree studios I thought what would be more fitting than a Darth Vader tree especially with the launch of the new film just released.
“I bought a mask and light sabre from ebay and used a black sheet from home. Many commuters have found the caption of ‘I find your lack of tinsel disturbing...’ quite amusing.”
Elstree & Borehamwood mayor Richard Butler was impressed with the tree and the Town Council offered another tree for the station forecourt. The mayor returned to switch on the tree’s lights accompanied by local the 5th Borehamwood Brownies and Guides who gave a carol performance for around 50 townsfolk, at which some new Brownies took their oaths.
Councillor Clive Butchins said:
"It was lovely to see how working together can result in such a worthwhile occasion. Many thanks to Thameslink for hosting and to the Brownies for their most enjoyable carol singing. Thanks also to Arbour Designs, Gristwood & Toms and Winkworths for all their help with the tree and on the day.”
