Gatwick Express driver gets special Golden Whistle award

Gatwick Express train driver, Adrian Voice has won a special award at the Institute of Railway Operators Golden Whistles awards for his bravery in rescuing a child from the train tracks.

Adrian had no idea he had won the award and thought he was there as part of team up for another award. When the special award winner was announced, he was taken by surprise. “I was elated.” he said. “I really wasn’t expecting to win. It’s just nice to be nominated and I think anyone would’ve done the same thing in the same situation.”

Adrian added: “I was on leave at home at the time, and when my partner told me there was someone on the track I didn’t believe it. Then I thought: “What do I do?” My personal track safety training kicked in and I just did what I had to do”.
The Golden Whistle awards recognise excellence in Individuals and teams within the operational environment on the railway. Those who have gone above and beyond expectations in order to deliver outstanding operational performance are honoured by the Institute.
