Smiling Andy wins community award for helping passengers at Salfords Station

Southern Rail’s Salfords Station Assistant Andy Chantler has been presented with a Good Citizen Award by Salfords and Sidlow Parish Council for his sterling work assisting passengers.

Parish council Chairman Cllr David Brown Andrew awarded the honour, which praises him for “always helping local residents at Salfords train station.”

The certificate continues: “Andy is willing to assist people with their itinerary and journeys. He keeps the station clean and tidy and always with a smile!”

Claire Minter, Clerk to Salfords and Sidlow Parish Council, added afterwards: “Residents were delighted to see him receive this accolade praising his efforts and saying he made going to the station such a better experience.”

The accolade is one of the parish council’s 2018 community awards, given to individuals “who make a real difference to others and demonstrate outstanding effort, over a sustained period of time”. The council says, “Their good deeds will have contributed to improving and making a significant difference in our community.”

Andy was given his award on Saturday, 10 November, after a solemn ceremony at the station attended by 80 local residents to mark the centenary of Armistice Day (see separate news release about GTR’s network-wide Armistice Day commemorations).
