Southern helps first-class florist’s dreams blossom at Horley station

A new florist's shop, run by former law enforcement officer Gavin Lambert, has opened at Horley Station, located on the Brighton Main Line.

Having taken early retirement after suffering a stroke in 2010, Gavin received a British Empire Medal for his work in law enforcement and with the health charity Different Strokes in 2017. Opening First Class Flowers at Horley has helped him come to terms with his situation.

Gavin said: “Southern Rail and their management firm TPT may consider what they’ve done in making this happen as very routine and I’m sure that against the other things they manage this is small fry.

“I’ve shared with them how life has been since my stroke and over the last 18 months or so particularly. Ill health retirement was inevitable, but coming to terms with it was not so easy. Their effort and care in helping me achieve my dream and give me an exciting new chapter is, as they say, priceless.”

He added: “In a world where too many people focus on material things, anything that anyone can do in my humble opinion to help someone navigate a happy path – albeit maybe small steps – is worth more in terms of satisfaction than anything money can buy. I hope I can create something of which Southern and TPT can be proud to be associated with and will give them a smile whenever they reflect on it.”

Gavin is offering a 20% discount on selected items to all rail staff and members of the emergency services on production of an ID card until Christmas.
