Southern staff support local good causes

Eastbourne based charity Embrace received a £420 donation from Southern as a result of the effort staff made to support good causes during December.

Throughout the month, staff across the Southern network organised collections of non-perishable items for local food banks, and the company committed £1 to its corporate charities for every item donated. In total 700 items were donated to food banks, resulting in £350 for each corporate good cause.

This was added to a £70 donation made by staff in exchange for the use of sports tickets, provided to Southern as part of its support of community sport programmes for youngsters.

Su Rogers, who nominated Embrace to become Southern's corporate good cause, after the support she received from the group herself, said: "I would personally like to thank everyone at Southern who has given to the foodbank, added donations for sports tickets and provided Embrace money out of their own pockets. This amazing charity really makes a difference to children and their families."

Speaking at the presentation of the cheque, at Eastbourne station, Rebecca Whippy, Chairperson and Advocate for the Embrace added: “Embrace consider ourselves so lucky to have been nominated as charity of the year by Southern, we have been overwhelmed with the generosity of both the staff and Southern itself. We are very excited to work with everyone and can't thank you all enough for your support to date."
