New report highlights London Luton Airport’s contribution to the local community

  • More than £120,000 raised for charity partner Sue Ryder over two years
  • Employment partnership with The Prince’s Trust gets 32 local young people into work
  • LLA’s Community Trust Fund awarded grants totaling £50,000 to community groups
  • London Luton Airport (LLA) has raised thousands of pounds for charity, helped local young people into work and reduced its environmental impact; these are just a few of the achievements detailed in its latest annual Community Engagement Report. Published today, the report highlights the airport’s continued positive impact in the local community throughout 2015.

LLA’s flagship employment scheme ‘Get into Airports’, run in partnership with The Prince’s Trust, enjoyed another successful year. 39 local young people took part in 2015, with 82% of participants securing a full-time job as a result.

LLA also raised record-breaking amounts for charity through its hugely successful charity partnership with Sue Ryder. More than £120,000 was raised for the St John’s Hospice during a two year partnership and which will enable Sue Ryder to provide over 8,500 hours of care in 2016.

In 2015 LLA committed a further £50,000 to good causes through its Community Trust Fund which was shared amongst 24 local organisations. 85% of applicants to the fund were successful with each group receiving a grant of up to £3,000 to support community projects.

The airport has also received recognition for its environmental practices. LLA achieved full energy management system (ISO50001) accreditation in 2015 in recognition of its energy-saving initiatives.

Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “As our £110million redevelopment project gathers pace, we remain committed to being the best neighbour we can be. At LLA we know that strong relationships with local residents, businesses and our charity and community partners are central to our success, and the fruits of these relationships are demonstrated in this year’s report. I am proud of the difference which we are able to make to our local community.”
