“Time is Fluid”: How a VFX Artist Turned His Career Around with Aerial Time-Lapse

Sometimes, taking a leap of faith and diving into uncharted waters is all you have to do as a creative to unlock your true potential.

When Rufus Blackwell looked at his career as a successful VFX artist in the UK, he saw an untapped opportunity just waiting for him. After relocating to Vietnam, his profession and passion came together in the form of time-lapse photography, but it wasn’t until he embraced aerial photography that his ground-based artwork could reach new heights.

Combining the technical capabilities of the Osmo and Inspire 2 with his unique VFX skills, and bending the nature of time, Blackwell created award-winning videos of unimaginable scale and beauty. Watch his story here.

New Report Highlights Importance of DJI’s Drone Safety Efforts

As the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, we believe the latest report from the Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence (ASSURE) on drone collision risks highlights the importance of DJI’s education and technology efforts to help keep drones clear of airplanes.

The ASSURE report (available here) studied a DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter and a larger fixed-wing drone made by another company, then used computer models to predict how they would collide with different surfaces of a passenger jet and a business jet. The study found a range of possible impacts on those surfaces, from minimal to serious. Read more.

DJI Stories: The Evolution of Aerial Technology at WRC

From operating in sub-zero temperatures to filming high-speed rally cars, the two-year journey of DJI at the World Rally Championship has been anything but easy. Yet, it is the sheer excitement of filming those cars kick up dirt in slow motion at 120 frames per second that makes it a story worth telling the world.

As engines start revving, our drone pilots have only one shot at capturing the acceleration, track the hairpin curves and swerve through the forests for that perfect aerial frame. That’s also what inspired DJI engineers to develop the Inspire 2: in the world’s fastest car race, we can’t afford to lag behind. Watch the story.
