Statement on new Update Process for Activating the Software and Firmware of DJI drones

On the 20th May 2017, DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, informed customers around the world about a new update process for activating the software and firmware of their drones.

The principal purpose of this update is to provide better support for our customers to adhere to the drone regulations of the jurisdiction in which they are flying, enhancing their flying experience and increasing flight safety. DJI has taken this step to help operators deal with the differing regulations emerging across various countries and regions, and to allow us to provide up-to-date safety information in any jurisdiction, both now and in the future.

This measure does not constitute a change of direction from current practices whereby customers are required to activate their drones with DJI before flying by logging into the DJI GO or DJI GO 4 app. Going forward, existing operators will only need to sign up once more with an email and password the next time they update their software and/or firmware. This will enable us to provide them with the correct geospatial information and flight functions, such as geofencing limits and maximum height ceilings relevant to their location.

DJI encourages pilots always to follow applicable laws and regulations in the countries where they operate, and provides information about these regulations on its FlySafe website at flysafe.dji.com.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite any media questions, queries relating to the above, or general questions relating to the drone industry by emailing pr.eu@dji.com.
