Kidderminster physiotherapist tackles Resolution Run inspired by mum

Jacqui Winter-Dwyers from Kidderminster will take on the Stroke Association’s 5km Resolution Run at the Wyre Forest on Sunday 02 October to raise vital funds for the charity.

Physiotherapist Jacqui, 53, works as a clinical specialist at Russells Hall Hospital and specialises in stroke rehabilitation. She is also a researcher at Keele University, with a PHD in stroke recovery. Her mother, Roma Wall, had a stroke in April 2011, which inspired Jacqui to go the extra mile and raise vital funds for people affected by stroke.

Jacqui said: “The day of my mum’s stroke is a day I’ll never forget – and neither will she. Our lives changed forever in that moment. My son did a great job of immediate first aid and thankfully he recognised the FAST symptoms of a stroke.

“We have been on a slow journey of recovery ever since, but my mum is doing well. I’ve even delivered some teaching sessions to students at Keele University to help them understand the lives of stroke survivors and their carers.”

Jacqui is training to take on the Stroke Association’s 5km Resolution Run in the Wyre Forest to raise funds for the charity.

She added: “The Stroke Association is a cause very close to our hearts. It is a pleasure to be raising funds for such a brilliant charity and my mum and sister will be there on the day to cheer me on!”

Katrin Winstanley, Events Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s around one every three and a half minutes - it is vital that we have people who can raise funds for people affected by stroke. We’re incredibly grateful to Jacqui for taking on this challenge. The money will go a long way in helping to support people in the West Midlands who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers.

“Our Resolution Run events are open to all ages and abilities, and participants can run, jog or walk the routes. We’ll also provide a full training guide to help keep Resolution Runners on track every step of the way. We’d encourage anyone to sign up and join us for what is set to be a fantastic day.”
