Crawley café invites people to Give a Hand and Bake for the Stroke Association
A Crawley café is calling on local residents to roll up their sleeves, grab a mixing bowl and bake to raise vital funds for stroke survivors.
Stepney’s Café in Maidenbower is holding a baking competition on Thursday 26 October, at 10:30am, in aid of the Stroke Association.
Café owner, Andree Stepney, said: “We’re thrilled to be inviting the local community in joining us with our Give a Hand and Bake competition. All you need to do is bring in your bake on Thursday 26 October at 10:15am, ready for judging at 10:30am. Once we announce a winner and runner up, we’ll then sell the cakes with all proceeds going to the Stroke Association.
“The Stroke Association is a fantastic charity which does so much in the community. They hold a fortnightly communication group in the café, so I’ve really come to understand just how devastating stroke can be. The work the local Stroke Association team do, day in and day out, is incredible. This was a small gesture to say a big thank you to them.
“We’ve already heard of some of the masterpieces we can expect on the day, so I know that the judges are going to have quite a tricky decision on their hands!”
The Stroke Association’s fundraising initiative, Give a Hand and Bake, calls on people across the South East to host their own bake sale, all with the aim of raising some serious dough. The money raised will help fund world-leading research that will help to save lives and change the story for stroke survivors.
This year, thousands of people across the UK will be donning their aprons for Give a Hand and Bake Week, which runs from 23 to 29 October 2017.
Becky Beard, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 100,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s around one every five minutes - it is vital that we have people who can raise funds for people affected by stroke. We’re incredibly grateful to Andree and her team for holding their bake off. The money will go a long way in helping to support people who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers.
“As a charity dependent upon funds, we’d love people in the South East to have some fun and bake up a storm with friends, family or colleagues this autumn. It doesn’t matter if you’re a baking beginner or a seasoned chef, join us and let’s get stuck in with Give a Hand and Bake.
“Whether you prefer to bake brownies for the office or host an afternoon tea party with friends and family, there are lots of ways you can bake up a storm and rise to fundraising success. The money raised will go a long way to funding innovative research into stroke care and treatment.”
