Teeing up a strong golfing future

Following on from today's Scottish golf announcements, Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, which manages Scotland’s investment in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open said:

“As the lead agency delivering Scotland’s commitments around The 2014 Ryder Cup, VisitScotland has supported more than 50 Scottish golf events since 2003 and the announcement to open discussions on extending sponsorship of the Scottish Open until 2020 is testament to this. Hosting incredible events like the AAM Scottish Open not only generates millions for the economy, but they also continue to strengthen Scotland’s position as the Home of Golf.

VisitScotland and Aberdeen Asset Management have developed a strong partnership in support of Scottish golf events and were both at the heart of establishing the Ladies Scottish Open in 2007. The exciting announcement that the event will be moving to a prime spot in the Ladies European Tour calendar and a new venue will help take the event to the next level.

With news that the terrific North Berwick Golf Club will be hosting next year’s inaugural Scottish Open pre-qualifying tournament and Gleneagles set to host The 2014 Ryder Cup next month – this is a very exciting time for golf in Scotland and we must make the most of the opportunities they present. Supporting golf tournaments gives us the opportunity to show off our incredible golfing product to the world, and with almost 600 courses to choose from, encourage people to come here and find out why Scotland is the Home of Golf.”
