The Zero Alpha Foundation Supports Combat Stress

The Zero Alpha Foundation is proud to have supported Combat Stress with a grant of £500 which will assist in their provision of community based services to support our veterans through their Community Outreach Programme. This is one of the first grants ever given by The Zero Alpha Foundation and will be the first of many such grant as we value and appreciate the work Combat Stress.

Founded in 1919, Combat Stress is the leading UK charity specialising in the care of Veterans’ mental health.  Over the years they have supported more than 100,000 Veterans and are currently helping over 5,400 ex-Service men and women battling debilitating mental health problems. Their clinical and welfare services operate nationwide at three short-stay residential treatment centres and through a network-wide Community Outreach Programme.

With recent conflicts in Iraq and the on- going war in Afghanistan Combat Stress have seen a 12% increase in requests for help and last year alone saw 1,700 new referrals needing treatment for chronic complex psychological conditions. This grant from The Zero Alpha foundation is to fund a ‘Just for us’ group through the Community Outreach Programme which provides treatment and practical support to Veterans their families in their community.

‘Just for us’ groups run monthly in the community to provide psycho education and raise awareness of the symptoms of mental health problems for partners/families and the Veteran. The group focuses on the nature of the condition and offers advice on how to handle certain situations that may arise from psychological problems. Frequent problems include; marital breakdown, financial concerns or personality changes. Various Group therapy methods are provided including; demonstrating relaxation techniques, stress management and signposting to appropriate services. These groups offer a lifeline to those Veterans who are isolated and who do not have direct contact with anyone from one month to the next. It allows individuals to have the confidence to communicate and listen to each other’s worries and gain clinical and welfare support in a safe and comfortable social setting.

It is amazing to think that all of this is possible solely through the sale of mobile phone contracts, a tangible reflection of the work undertaken by Zero Alpha Mobile and The Zero Alpha Foundation.

If you wish to get involved then check out the deals and get your new phone or upgrade from Zero Alpha Mobile, you get competitive prices from most major network providers, you pay no more than what you would pay elsewhere and this helps The Zero Alpha Foundation provide support to these great charities.
