Yamaha Industrial Robots
Leading Factory Automation with Creative Ideas and Technology

The level of attention focused on robots and robotics has been growing around the world in recent years. Today, we see robots designed in the likeness of humans or animals that we can converse with, that can bring us drinks or even play games with us. Then there are robots like drones that survey or observe the ground from the air or spread agrichemicals to save human labor in agriculture. As R&D moves forward for numerous types of commercial robots, the global market in this growing industry is expected to top 180 billion U.S. dollars around the year 2020.

However, the foundation of this business and the sector that still constitutes more than half of market demand is the industrial robots used on the production lines in the automotive, electronics and electrical appliance industries. Japan in particular began automating its factories in the 1970s and has long been a world leader in robotics, with Yamaha Motor standing as one the country’s leading manufacturers in the field.

In this issue, we introduce the industrial robots of Yamaha Motor’s Intelligent Machinery (IM) business and the new, innovative integrated robot control system that aims to dramatically improve production line performance.
