New Organizational Reforms and Personnel Changes at Yamaha Motor

IWATA, December 27, 2017 - At today’s Board of Directors Meeting, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. resolved to implement the following organizational reforms and personnel changes, effective January 1, 2018.

- Organizational reforms (effective January 1, 2018)

1. Corporate Planning & Finance Center
In order to strengthen the respective functionality of and linkages between the Corporate Planning & Finance Center and other financial departments, the previously-independent Financial Service Business Development Section will be incorporated into the Corporate Planning & Finance Center, and is to be renamed the Financial Service Development Division.

2. Mobility Technology Center / Advanced Technology Center
In order to speed up commercialization of new business, the New Business Development Center and the Technology Center will be reorganized, with the new Mobility Technology Center established to take charge of new fields of mobility, and the new Advanced Technology Center established to combine new business planning functions and advanced technology development functions.

1) Mobility Technology Center
・The New Land Vehicle Business Development Section of the New Business Development Center will be transferred and become the NLV Business Development Division.
・The NPM Business Section of the Technology Center is to be transferred.
・The PM Business Division under the NPM Business Section will be renamed the PM Advanced Development Division.
・The EM Development Section of the Technology Center will be transferred to the Mobility Technology Center.
・The Motor Sports Section is to be newly established, and the Motor Sports Strategy Division and the Motor Sports Development Division of the Technology Center will be repositioned under the Motor Sports Section.

2) Advanced Technology Center
・The New Venture Business Development Section of the New Business Development Center is to be transferred to the Advanced Technology Center, and the Planning Division under the New Venture Business Development Section will be renamed the New Venture Business Planning Division.
・The Research & Development Section of the Technology Center will be transferred to the Advanced Technology Center.
・As well as the Technology Planning Section of the Technology Center being transferred to the Advanced Technology Center, the Engineering Management Division under the Technology Planning Section will be renamed the Technology Planning Division.
・The new Digital Strategy Division to take charge of the governance and promotion of the utilization of digital technology will be established directly under the Advanced Technology Center.

3. Procurement Center
The organization of the Procurement Center will be changed to improve product competitiveness.

  • The new Strategy Planning Section will be established. The Procurement Planning Division and the Global Supplier Network Promotion Division will be renamed the Procurement Control Division and the Procurement Strategy Division respectively, and repositioned under the Strategy Planning Section.
  • The new Procurement Section will be established. As well as the Procurement Promotion Division and the Procurement Quality Control Division being positioned under the Procurement Section, the PJ Promotion Division of the PF Model Unit will also be transferred to under the Procurement Section and renamed the Procurement Engineering Division.

4. Powertrain Unit
The Engine Unit is to be renamed the Powertrain Unit, changing the organization to speed up the technological development of powertrains including engines.

  • The Engine Development Section will be renamed the Powertrain Development Section, and the 1st Engine Development Division and the 2nd Engine Development Division will be renamed the 1st PT Development Division and the 2nd PT Development Division respectively. In addition, the recreational vehicle engine development functions of the Recreational Vehicle Business Unit will be transferred to the 2nd PT Development Division.
  • The 3rd PT Development Division to take charge of advanced development and functional evaluation, and the Combustion System Development Division to take charge of engine combustion system development etc. will be newly established under the Powertrain Development Section.

5. PF Model Unit
The organization of the PF Model Unit will be changed to improve product quality and strengthen product competitiveness as well as increase vehicle body development efficiency.

  • The Quality Innovation Engineering Division under the Engine Unit will be combined with the Quality Innovation Engineering Division under the PF Model Unit.
  • The recreational vehicle body development functions of the Recreational Vehicle Business Unit will be transferred to the PF Model Development Section, and renamed the RV Development Division.
  • The Cost Innovation Division of the Cost Innovation Section will be transferred to directly under the PF Model Unit. In addition, the Cost Innovation Section will be dissolved, and its functions spread among other organizations.

6. CS Center
Some parts sales and services will be combined and reorganized to improve operational effectiveness.

  • The Marketing 1st Division and the Marketing 2nd Division under the After Sales Section will be reorganized as the ASEAN and Emerging Countries Marketing Division and the Advanced Countries Marketing Division respectively.

7. Motorcycle Business Operations
The organization of the Motorcycle Business Operations will be changed to strengthen new business model creation functions and synergies between regions.

  • The New Value Business Development Division will be newly established within the Motorcycle Business Operations to take charge of new business model creation.
  • The Sales Planning Division of the 2nd Business Unit will be transferred to the 1st Business Unit, and renamed the Marketing Planning Division.
  • The Southeast & East Asia Sales Division of the 1st Business Unit will be transferred to the 2nd Business Unit.
  • The functions of the Planning Division of the Recreational Vehicle Business Unit will be transferred to the respective organizations under the Motorcycle Business Operations.

8. Marine Business Operations
The organization of the Marine Business Operations will be changed to strengthen comprehensive marine business strategies.

  • The Marine Business Section will be restructured into the Marine Business Unit.
  • The Planning Section will be newly established under the Marine Business Unit, with the Product Planning Division, the Business Planning Division, and the new Cost Planning Division moved to within the Planning Section.
  • The Marketing Section will be newly established under the Marine Business Unit, and the 1st Marketing Division and the 2nd Marketing Division positioned moved to within the Marketing Section.

9. Solution Business Operations
The Vehicle & Solution Business Operations will be renamed the Solution Business Operations, and will include robotics technology, changing the organization to roll out new business strategies.

  • The IM Business Unit will be renamed the Robotics Business Unit.
  • The UMS Business Development Section will be restructured into the Unmanned System Section, and positioned under the Robotics Business Unit.
  • The Advanced Development Division of the SMT Business Development Section will be transferred to directly under the Robotics Business Unit.
  • The new CS Division will be established directly under the Robotics Business Unit.
  • The Recreational Vehicle Business Unit will be dissolved, and its functions spread among

    other organizations.
