2024 Edition of the Ski Industry Climate Summit to Take Place in Munich

October 2024 – Following the success of its inaugural edition, the Ski Industry Climate Summit is set to return for its second edition, scheduled for December 2nd – 3rd, 2024, in Munich. As the effects of climate change continue to affect winter sports, brands, suppliers, and retailers are uniting to take meaningful action. The event, conceived, organized and hosted by Atomic in collaboration with Protect Our Winters (POW) and the Winter Sports Sustainability Network (WSN) and ISPO Munich, will bring together key stakeholders to drive collaboration and solutions aiming to secure the future of the ski industry.

The two-day summit will focus on how industry players can move from commitment to measurable action. After the first event the willingness and commitment of participants manifested in the WSN Climate Pact. Building on the momentum of the 2023 edition, this year's event will delve deeper into the necessary transformations that brands need to implement to reduce their environmental impact and align with climate science. With a particular emphasis on operational collaboration, the summit will address pressing industry challenges, from sustainable sourcing to clean energy procurement.

"We are thrilled to continue driving the conversation on climate action within the ski industry," said Wolfgang Mayrhofer President of Atomic. "As a brand rooted in the Austrian Alps, we see firsthand the effects of climate change on our industry. The Ski Industry Climate Summit serves as a platform where businesses can not only discuss challenges but also collaborate on solutions. Together, we can transform winter sports into a model for sustainability."

Summit Themes and Agenda

The summit will feature tailored sessions for four key stakeholder groups—brands, suppliers, retailers, and organizations. Each group, as well as external speakers will deliver insights and best practices, and the agenda will cover a range of critical topics:

  • Legislation and Compliance: Industry leaders will discuss how evolving regulations, such as the European Green Deal and new sustainability guidelines, will affect businesses.
  • Supply Chain: Attendees will explore how to source lower-impact materials and improve sustainability data sharing.
  • Circular Economy: The event will highlight innovations in recycling and circular product design.
  • Clean Energy Procurement: A key focus will be on sourcing renewable energy for operations and production.
  • Impact Measurement: Experts will provide guidance on how to measure corporate carbon footprints and track product life cycles.

By promoting a collaborative approach, the summit aims to provide actionable insights that participants can take back to their organizations.

Collaborative Leadership

This year's summit will again receive support from Protect Our Winters (POW), the Wintersports Sustainability Network (WSN), and the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI). The partnerships are designed to ensure that the ski industry remains at the forefront of climate action, leveraging shared expertise to drive progress. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in curated discussions, attend panels featuring industry leaders, and explore new sustainability initiatives showcased by key players.

"Climate change is an urgent issue that requires immediate action," said Jonas Schneider, Executive Director of Protect Our Winters Europe. "Our goal at POW is to unite the winter sports community in the fight against climate change. Events like the Ski Industry Climate Summit help create the mass movement needed to protect the outdoor spaces we love."

How to Participate

Industry professionals, including representatives from ski, snowboard, and outdoor brands, suppliers, and retailers, are encouraged to attend and contribute to the discussions. The event is open to all stakeholders who are committed to driving positive environmental change in the winter sports sector.
