Crime+Investigation Highlights May 2020

HOMICIDE HUNTERS

Thursdays from 7 May at 22.00

Homicide Hunter examines murder cases told through the personal experience of retired detective, Lieutenant Joe Kenda. Kenda spent 23 years in the Colorado Springs Police Department, where he amassed a lifetime of memories catching killers and helping solve close to 400 homicide investigations. Relying on his years of experience and a compelling storytelling style, Kenda captivates with details of a different investigation each week — from the racing adrenaline he felt when receiving an initial homicide call to the satisfaction of closing the case. Homicide Hunter reveals the emotional and psychological effects of murder on the investigator himself as Kenda embarks on a personal journey, coming to terms with long-suppressed nightmares. S7B (10x60)

ALASKA PD

New episodes continue on Thursdays at 21.00

Alaska PD brings viewers to America’s Last Frontier, where the line between civilisation and lawlessness can be thin. Chronically shorthanded police departments across the state must turn to officers from the Lower 48 to fight a soaring crime rate. For the “newbies” it is a trial by fire as they learn first-hand that policing, like everything else, is different in Alaska.  In a state where guns are carried as part of everyday life, officers often have to protect an entire town by themselves while enforcing laws many are unwilling to follow. They face numerous dangers found only in Alaska, not just from people who want to be free from the rules of society, but also from encounters with predatory animals roaming through town and sub-zero conditions that can be deadly and unrelenting.  The series will follow Alaska’s law enforcement in Fairbanks, Kodiak, Kotzebue and Petersburg.  S1 (7x60)

THE JAIL: 60 DAYS IN

Episodes continue Fridays at 21.00

For the first time in 60 Days In history, more participants struggle to survive the intense program and are forced to quit the program early, as the newly elected Sheriff takes over one of the worst facilities the series has ever seen.  After two decades, the Etowah County Detention Center in Alabama is under new management and the newly elected Sheriff is determined to make a change. In his first week, he decided to shakedown the facility and in one day alone, found more than 200 broken door locks, drugs and removed more than two tons of contraband. With no time to lose, Sheriff Horton along with Chief Peek and select members of their team have agreed to embed innocent participants to uncover the issues that plague the facility.  This season, the participants will face the biggest challenge of their lives in an effort to rid a jail, that is in dire need of help, of contraband and corruption before it is too late.  S6 (16x60)

ESCAPING POLYGAMY
Episodes continue on Wednesday at 21.00

Some people are born into polygamy and thus have no choice whether they want to live that kind of a lifestyle. The only option in a case like that is to break free of the family and escape polygamy. That is what sisters Andrea, Jessica and Shanell did more than 10 years ago. After leaving their Salt Lake City-based polygamist group, the Order, the sisters devoted their lives to helping others -- men, women and even children -- get out of their own polygamist groups and adjust to new lives. Andrea and Jessica, two of 12 children born to Daniel Kingston and his sixth wife, escaped with help from their aunt and were placed into foster care during a nationally covered custody battle. Shanell, the second of 12 children born to Kingston and his seventh wife, left the Order after being married to a cousin as a teenager; she has since remarried and has two daughters.
