Bluewater Urges Europeans to Prioritize Hydration as Heatwave Grips Northern Hemisphere
Stockholm, Sweden, June 24, 2026 -- As a major heatwave pushes temperatures higher across Europe, water purification and beverage company Bluewater is urging everyone, regardless of age, to take immediate action and prioritize hydration every day to help reduce the risks associated with heat stress.
The warning comes as millions head to beaches, parks, sporting events, festivals, and other outdoor gatherings during the peak summer season. While warm weather encourages people to spend more time outdoors, it also increases the body’s need for fluids.
“Hydration is one of the simplest and most effective ways people can support their health during periods of extreme heat,” said Bengt Rittri, CEO and founder of Bluewater. “Whether you’re spending the day at the seaside, attending a music festival, watching a sporting event, working outdoors, or simply enjoying time with family, drinking enough clean, safe water is essential. The body loses fluids faster in hot weather, often before we realize it.”
Dehydration can affect anyone, but young children, older adults, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions face greater risks. Symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, and difficulty concentrating. If someone shows signs of dehydration, move them to a cool or shaded place and encourage them to sip water slowly. Loosen any tight clothing and help them rest. If symptoms are severe, such as confusion, fainting, or rapid heartbeat, seek medical help immediately.
Bluewater encourages everyone to drink water regularly throughout the day, rather than waiting until they feel thirsty. As a general guideline, aim to drink around 1.5 to 2 liters of water every day, adjusting your intake based on your activity level, age, and the intensity of the heat. Try to carry a refillable water bottle, find shade during the hottest times, wear light clothing, and take breaks from the sun. Taking these steps now can help your body better handle the heat.
You can stay hydrated with more than just drinks. Foods like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, berries, and lettuce also help keep your fluid levels up. Be careful with drinking too much alcohol, especially at outdoor events, since it can make dehydration worse.
Bluewater also reminds pet owners to provide extra care for their pets in hot weather. Make sure pets always have fresh water and try to walk or exercise them in the cooler hours of the morning or evening. Watch out for signs of dehydration in pets, such as lethargy, dry or sticky gums, excessive panting, and a loss of appetite. Acting quickly if you notice these symptoms can help keep your animals safe during extreme heat.
“Summer should be enjoyed to the max,” added Rittri. “Take action today: make hydration a habit, look out for vulnerable family members, and guarantee pets have access to fresh water. These simple steps will help everyone stay safer and more comfortable during extended heat spells.
