Battlefield Hydration: 1,000 Litres of Drinking Water an Hour — From Two Carry Cases in Ten Minutes

Bluewater is bringing its mobile emergency hydration system to Scandinavia’s largest defence industry exhibition, responding to growing demand from European armed forces.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, 17 August, 2026 – Bluewater will present its highly mobile Emergency Water Station (EWS) at DALO Industry Days in Herning, Denmark, on 19–20 August. This is Scandinavia’s largest defence industry exhibition, with over 1,000 companies from 28 countries and more than 12,000 defence professionals expected to attend.

The Bluewater EWS is both highly portable and powerful. One soldier can set up the system in about ten minutes, and it can then produce up to 1,000 liters of drinking water per hour from contaminated fresh and brackish water. For soldiers in tough combat situations, having reliable access to safe drinking water is vital for hydration, physical performance, alertness, and overall effectiveness.

This compact reverse osmosis system can treat heavily contaminated water with salinity levels like those in the Baltic Sea and fits into two Pelican 1660 cases. It is made to deliver drinking water right where it is needed, cutting down on the need to move large amounts of bottled or bulk water to front-line units.

The Swedish Armed Forces have ordered 500 systems through the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) currently being delivered. The system has also been assigned a NSN (NATO Stock Number).

Bluewater is currently talking with several European armed forces, government agencies, and first-response organizations, and is building a distributor network throughout Europe and elsewhere. Different variants of the Bluewater EWS are in development to meet specific climate-related or infield application needs.

Visitors can see the EWS at Booth U2449, where the Bluewater team with in-depth knowledge of military water needs and field conditions will be available.

“Getting large quantities of safe drinking water to personnel can be a significant operational and logistical challenge,” says Bengt Rittri, CEO and founder of Bluewater. “Our approach is simple: put serious purification capacity into a system that one person can transport and have running within minutes.”
