Bluewater Launches Coffee Rock – A Game-Changing Mineral Formula Designed to Put Bean Flavour First While Protecting Espresso Machines

Stockholm, Sweden, May 2026 — Swedish water and beverage innovator Bluewater has unveiled Coffee Rock, a mineral formula engineered for professional baristas, coffee roasters, and shop owners seeking superior flavor extraction, consistent brewing, and equipment protection.

Developed over two years under the leadership of Bluewater Chief Scientist Dr. Ahmed Fawzi and commercially led by Product Lead Maximillian Lundin, Coffee Rock represents the next frontier in precision water for specialty coffee, focusing on helping professionals achieve optimal results.

Coffee Rock made its global debut to broad acclaim at the World of Coffee Bangkok this weekend. Coffee professionals applauded its ability to improve flavor clarity, sweetness, and cup balance. Following its Southeast Asian debut, Coffee Rock will launch in Europe at the Bloomtown Coffee Festival, London UK, on 16 May. There, some of the EU and UK’s best roasters and world-renowned green bean farmers will have the opportunity to brew with the formula for the first time.

Coffee Rock is the next evolution in coffee water optimization. It builds on the momentum of Bluewater’s acclaimed Liquid Rock mineral technology, which enhances water composition with minerals such as magnesium and calcium. Coffee Rock launches a radically reimagined formula tailored specifically to the precise mineral and taste requirements of specialty coffee.

Coffee Rock now has a 6:1 magnesium-to-calcium ratio, meaning it contains six times as much magnesium as calcium by weight, compared to the previous ratio of one part magnesium to two parts calcium. This new balance helps bring out more flavor, complexity, sweetness, body, and clarity from high-quality coffee beans now at a lower dosing.

“Flavor is something baristas should be able to dial in with precision,” said Maximillian Lundin. “Coffee Rock mineralizes every cup precisely so each bean can express its full character. Same dose – more flavor.”

Coffee Rock brings what Bluewater calls an industry first: zero corrosion and scaling, protecting brewing equipment and substantially reducing maintenance costs.

“What’s not to like about a solution that means less downtime and lower life-term maintenance costs?” Lundin added. “Less wear on boilers, valves, and group heads means extended machine lifespan – while baristas gain the confidence to push extraction without damaging machines.”

According to Bluewater testing, Coffee Rock enables water to flow through coffee machines without damaging equipment, giving cafés confidence to optimize extraction while protecting machine longevity.

“Most water contains too much bicarbonate, which becomes scale when heated, while chloride can corrode the metal blends that the heated tanks are made by,” said Lundin. “Coffee Rock is designed around both issues with a thermally stable mineral profile that won’t scale and zero chloride that won’t corrode. Magnesium and calcium are dosed in a precise 6:1 ratio to protect machines from the inside out.”

Coffee Rock is purposely formulated to work with the Bluewater Café Station, where it is compliant with the advanced dosing mechanisms efficient flow that it is famous for. Together with the Bluewater Spirit water purifier, which uses the company’s proprietary SuperiorOsmosis™ technology to filter out up to 99.7% of contaminants, the system delivers pure water with minimal waste compared with traditional reverse osmosis systems. This delivers a pure base for every cup and greatly reduces waste.

"Water chemistry remains one of the most neglected yet influential variables in specialty coffee," said Dr. Ahmed Fawzi. "After two years of scientific development and testing, Coffee Rock helps baristas and roasters unlock greater extraction. It additionally preserves equipment condition. We believe it has the capacity to redefine coffee brewing standards."

Importantly for operators, Coffee Rock will be available at the same price point as Liquid Rock, and now with the magnesium concentrated, the same flavor can be achieved with lower dosing, resulting in less cost per coffee shop.

Bluewater confirmed stock is ready for distribution in key markets, including the UK, Sweden, Asia, North America, and the UAE, from mid-May.

Interested in trying Coffee Rock? Bluewater will shortly send free sample vials to coffee partners. Coffee roasters, cafés, distributors, brewing professionals, and journalists can request samples by replying to this email with their name, number of vials needed, and shipping address. Bluewater will arrange delivery while supplies last, but points out the mix should ideally be added to purified RO water for the full experience.
