Cavotec’s Luciano Corbetta to present at Shoreside Power Conference

Luciano Corbetta, Cavotec Group Market Unit Manager Port & Maritime, is a guest speaker at this year’s Shoreside Power Conference, to be held on April 26 at Marittima Terminal 103 in Venice.

In association with Venezia Terminal Passeggeri and Ashcroft & Associates the European Cruise Council (ECC) has invited guest speakers from a variety of fields to share their insights about shore-to-ship power with port officials from around the world. The event is co-sponsored by ABB and the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports.

In addition to ECC members, equipment suppliers and representatives of the European Commission, there will be guests speakers from engineering group ABB, Copenhagen Malmö Port, Disney Cruise Line, Princess Cruise, MSC Cruises, Port Metro Vancouver, Cochran Marine, Venice Port Authority, T&D Europe, ENEL Green Power and Stena Line.

The main issues to be discussed include harmonising voltages and frequencies and the role of local authorities and the European Commission.

Cavotec’s Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) systems are fitted either onboard ships, or, as in the case of several cruise ship applications, on quaysides,” explains Corbetta.

“We offer a variety of shore to ship power systems that are adapted to meet the specific requirements of ports and shipping lines. Our systems are already in operation at ports across Northern Europe, Canada and the US.”

Concern over air quality in harbours has led to growing pressure on port operators to reduce carbon and nitrogen dioxide emissions. Cavotec AMP systems enable ships to turn off their engines when in port, and connect to shore-side electricity, thus helping to improve air quality in ports and surrounding communities.
