Accomplished Stringer Crack Repair on Boeing B747-8i

AMAC Aerospace is pleased to have completed a major repair of stringer cracks on a Boeing B747-8i at the hangar in Basel, Switzerland. The cracks were found across the aircraft fuselage during a maintenance check.

The team immediately began performing detailed visual inspections (DVI) of each frame station, stringers, splice and frame fitting, as mentioned in the SB. Over 80 cracks were found and reported to Boeing before starting the repair. The aircraft had to be placed in a specially shored condition with multiple special cradles and support jacks. Some of the cracks were extremely difficult to reach and a special scaffolding was installed for a 360-degree access to the fuselage stringers. Several departments were involved in the complex repairs, which required highly skilled, specially trained staff.

The whole repair, including creating new stringers with a special machine, were performed at AMAC Aerospace. AMAC Aerospace has performed these complex structural repairs before and is one of the few outfitting centers worldwide that can performing such specialized work all in-house.
