Legal proceedings addressing PFAS emissions are in progress in many municipalities in Sweden. Johanna Chamberlain, legal scholar and researcher in tort law, has analysed the relevant legislation and several ongoing cases. Her research results in proposals for making legal proceedings more efficient and making it more difficult to dismiss cases with reference to the statutory limitation period.
Professional and lay judges are not supposed to be influenced by personal values or political opinions. Despite this, the language of judgments reflects stereotypical ideas about gender and sexuality. This language means that women who have experienced sexual violence are often blamed for the assault. This is shown in a new thesis in Scandinavian languages from Uppsala University.
The EU and OECD have jointly developed rules to prevent companies from exploiting differences in national legislation for financial gain. According to a new thesis/study at Uppsala University, however, companies are able to circumvent the rules. “The losers are mainly developing countries that are not members of the EU or OECD," explains Autilia Arfwidsson, doctoral student in Law.
