Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation Holds First Scholarship Graduation Ceremony for University Students in Indonesia

On 26th August 2020, the Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation held a Scholarship Graduation Ceremony for its first group of graduating scholarship students at the PT. Yanmar Diesel Indonesia (YADIN) office at Depok. Due to the high rate of coronavirus spread in Indonesia since March, the graduation ceremony had to be postponed from its original date in July. The Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation held the ceremony while implementing a strict health protocol and social distancing policy.

The 5 students who graduated are the scholarship recipients from Darma Persada University (Unsada). They have been receiving the scholarship for 2 years, receiving a total of 1 million rupiahs each month. Aside from its support at Darma Persada University (Unsada), the foundation has also been working with Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) since 2019 to support students through scholarships. The Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation's began providing scholarship assistance in Indonesia at the 60th anniversary of Indonesia's diplomatic relations with Japan in 2018 with a plan to establish a support system for universities in Indonesia.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Association of Indonesian Alumni from Japan (PERSADA), representatives from Darma Persada University (Unsada), and Kai Yasuda, President Director of PT. Yanmar Diesel Indonesia (YADIN). A message for the graduation ceremony was sent by Nobuyoshi Fujita, Executive Director of the Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation, since he was unable to attend the ceremony in person due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The graduates expressed their gratitude for the scholarship from Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation and the opportunity it afforded them to study at the University, opening up a brighter path for their future. Nobuyoshi Fujita, Executive Director of the Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation, expressed his hopes that this scholarship would be able to help the students to continue to excel in their future endeavors.

The Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation was founded by Magokichi Yamaoka, the founder of Yanmar Co., Ltd. using his personal assets. In Japan, the Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation provides and manages scholarships for high school, graduate and foreign students who are engaged in the research in natural science.

Since 2013, the foundation has also been active in Southeast Asia, and in Indonesia offers academic support to junior high school students in Jakarta and Surabaya to continue with soccer training while attending school, offering a lucky few the opportunity to pursue a professional football career.

Kai Yasuda, the President Director of PT. Yanmar Diesel Indonesia (YADIN) stated that “the COVID-19 pandemic does not dampen YADIN’s spirit in giving the best for our stakeholders, including for Yamaoka Scholarship recipients who graduated this year. Though the celebration is held differently this year under the consideration of health protocols, it does not reduce our excitement in celebrating the students’ marvelous achievements.”

"This activity is in line with our company's vision, which is to create a sustainable future. We believe that we need to support students that are going to be the future successors in order to make a better world. We hope this activity has a positive impact on every stakeholder, especially for students who receive scholarships", he added.
