Major cruise weekend in Copenhagen

May 16-17 was a weekend marked by high passenger volumes and smooth cruise operations in the Danish capital with five vessels calling at Langelinie and Oceankaj. The arrivals — Britannia of P&O Cruises, TUI’s Mein Schiff Relax, Viking Neptune, Costa Diadema and AIDAbella — brought more than 17.000 guests to the city, marking one of the busiest weekends this year.

The weekend included the maiden call of TUI’s Mein Schiff Relax, marking the vessel’s first visit to Copenhagen. As the first ship in the new InTUItion class, she is scheduled for 10 calls this year, as part of a total of 18 Mein Schiff calls. On Sunday, MSC Euribia returned to commence its weekly turnaround schedule in the very city where she was named in 2023, reinforcing Copenhagen’s position as a key port for passenger change in Northern Europe.

With high passenger volumes, CMP is deploying traffic officials at Langelinie to ensure safe, coordinated and efficient landside operations for guests and service providers such as buses — benefiting locals and visitors alike.

The implementation of the European Entry/Exit System (EES) has commenced, meaning that border controls for cruise guests are now taking place for vessels arriving from outside the Schengen area. At CMP, dedicated flexible facilities and strong collaboration with the Danish Police ensure that these controls are implemented smoothly — and this weekend was no exception.

Three of the visiting vessels connected to shore power, contributing to reduced emissions during port stays and supporting the shipping lines’ long‑term commitment to more responsible cruise operations. It is expected that around 79% of cruise guests arriving in Copenhagen this year will be on board a ship connected to shore power.

The scale and quality of operations this weekend underscore why Copenhagen has been nominated as Europe’s Leading Cruise Port for the third consecutive year. Voting remains open until 28 August, offering stakeholders and guests the opportunity to support the city’s continued leadership in the cruise sector.
