Bienen auf Dächern und in Grünanlagen: Aroundtown stärkt die Artenvielfalt in Städten

In dem Projekt „Aroundtown buzzes“ stellt das Unternehmen Dächer seiner Gewerbeimmobilien als Heimat für Bienenvölker zur Verfügung und beschäftigt darüber hinaus einen Vollzeit-Bienenzüchter, der sich intensiv um die Bienen kümmert. Damit setzt sich Aroundtown für biologische Vielfalt ein und unterstützt das Überleben von Bienen im Stadtgebiet.

Bienenvölker auf den Dächern

Das Projekt „Aroundtown buzzes“ wurde im Jahr 2020 mit 15 Bienenstöcken auf den Dächern von Gewerbeeinheiten der Aroundtown Gruppe initiiert. Insgesamt sind diese mittlerweile zu 28 Bienenkolonien gewachsen, darunter sechs junge Bienenvölker, die 2022 erstmals zu Ertragsbienen werden. Inzwischen konnten bereits 450 Liter hauseigener Honig produziert und in 1.800 Gläser gefüllt werden.

Bienenfreundliche Grünanlagen rund um Wohn- und Gewerbeimmobilien

Verschiedenste Außenflächen, wie zum Beispiel das Dach des Markt Centers Potsdam wurden zudem mit bienen- und insektenfreundlichen Blumen und Pflanzen begrünt, um ideale Bedingungen für die Tiere zu schaffen und ihre Lebensräume zu erhalten. Ein weiteres Projekt ist die Umwandlung von Rasenflächen in Wiesen, wie es in einer Wohnanlage in Kley, Dortmund, umgesetzt wurde. Hier wurde zusätzlich ein Bienenhotel und eine Informationstafel installiert, um die Anwohner:innen für das Thema zu sensibilisieren und auf das lokale Ökosystem aufmerksam zu machen.

Mitarbeiter:innen als Botschafter:innen für die Bienen

Auch die Mitarbeiter:innen werden in die Initiative eingebunden. Neue Mitarbeiter:innen der Unternehmensgruppe in Deutschland erhalten im Rahmen des Onboarding-Prozesses zum Eintritt in das Unternehmen ein Bienenzertifikat und übernehmen damit die Patenschaft für eine Biene in einer der Liegenschaften der Aroundtown-Gruppe. Zu besonderen Anlässen erhalten sie zudem Bienenwachskerzen oder Honig.

Bees on roofs and in green spaces: Aroundtown strengthens urban biodiversity

In the "Aroundtown buzzes" project, the company provides the roofs of its commercial properties as homes for bee colonies and also employs a full-time beekeeper who takes intensive care of the bees. In this way, Aroundtown is promoting biodiversity and supporting the survival of bees in the urban area.

The "Aroundtown buzzes" project was initiated in 2020 with 15 beehives on the roofs of Aroundtown Group commercial units. There are now a total of 28 bee colonies, including six young colonies that will become productive bees for the first time in 2022. In the process, 450 liters of in-house honey have already been produced and put into 1,800 jars.

Bee-friendly green spaces around residential and commercial properties

Various outdoor areas, such as the roof of the Markt Center Potsdam, have been landscaped with bee- and insect-friendly flowers and plants to create ideal conditions for the animals and preserve their habitats. Another example is the conversion of lawns into meadows, as was implemented in a project in a residential complex in Kley, Dortmund. Here, a bee hotel and an information board were also installed to raise awareness of the issue among residents and draw their attention to the local ecosystem.

Employees as ambassadors for the bees

Employees are also involved in the initiative. New employees of the Group in Germany receive a bee certificate as part of the onboarding process when they join the company and thus take on the sponsorship of a bee in one of the Aroundtown Group's properties. On special occasions, they also receive in-house beeswax candles or honey.
