Cross-Border Hydrogen Project “PACT-H2” Receives EU Funding Approval
The project “PACT H2,” coordinated by the Saarland hydrogen agency H2Saar, has received funding approval from the European Union. As a result, the project now has a total budget of approximately €3 million at its disposal. Its objective is to better coordinate the development of a hydrogen economy in the region and to more actively engage the public. The project is designed as a cross-border initiative and includes partners from France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany.
The focus lies on aligning strategies for future hydrogen supply across the participating regions and strengthening exchange between policymakers, industry, and society. Planned activities include public dialogue formats as well as joint information and platform services. Of the total funding, around €1.7 million is provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), while an additional €500,000 comes from the Saarland Ministry for Economic Affairs. The remaining funds are contributed by the project partners themselves.
Managing Director Dr. Bettina Hübschen stated that PACT H2 represents a joint, cross-border approach to advancing the hydrogen economy. A key factor, she emphasized, is ensuring that new technologies not only function technically but also gain societal acceptance.
