Everllence Supplies Gas Engines for Off-Grid Data Center in the USA
Everllence has received an order to supply 24 gas engines with a total output of 480 megawatts for a hyperscale data center in the USA. The data center will be operated completely off-grid and will provide power for applications in the field of artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The modular facility enables flexible power supply and can be expanded gradually as the data center's energy requirements grow.
The background to this project is the multi-year waiting times for grid connections for large data centers in parts of the USA. The medium-speed gas engines supplied by Everllence are therefore intended to enable reliable and quickly available power supply independent of the electricity grid. The 51/60G engines deployed are currently operated with natural gas, but are also hydrogen-ready and can be operated with a hydrogen share of up to 25 percent.
Johann Stocks, Head of Power Americas at Everllence, described the order as one of the company's most significant off-grid data center projects in the USA. In a market that has so far been dominated by gas turbines, medium-speed gas engines offer a powerful alternative for data centers without direct grid connection. They are characterized by high supply reliability and can quickly compensate for load changes.
