Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs Plans to Increase Hydrogen Auctions

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs is planning to provide additional funds for the ongoing auctions of hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives via the Hintco platform. As Hintco announced on Friday, the budget for the second auction round is to be increased for both regional and global lots. This would mean an increase of €412 million, bringing the total volume to just under €3 billion.

However, the final decision depends on the 2026 federal budget. Only once the German Bundestag adopts the budget in December 2025 will it be clear whether the additional funds will actually be made available.

Hintco stated that it would announce the confirmed funding volumes at a later date and, if necessary, adjust public notices (TED) and auction details accordingly.

If the increase is implemented, the total funding volume would amount to around €2.9 billion. Germany would contribute approximately €2.6 billion, while the Netherlands would remain involved with €297 million.
