Hydrogen Project in Lubmin is Being Taken Over and Expanded
Lhyfe's German hydrogen project in Lubmin has been acquired by PtX Development GmbH. Together with its financial partner KGAL, the company plans to expand the available land for the project by more than ten hectares to further increase capacity. According to the companies, this could potentially make the project Germany's largest hydrogen project.
The site offers favorable conditions for gigawatt-scale production, thanks to secured land for production, substations, and pipelines, as well as direct access to offshore wind energy, water, and the hydrogen core grid. The target is an annual hydrogen production of up to 160,000 tons.
In addition to KGAL, PtX Development, and Lhyfe, the GP JOULE Group, which brings further experience in renewable energies and hydrogen integration, is also involved in the project's development. Financing is provided through KGAL's ESPF 6 Fund. PtX Managing Director Dr. Alan Cadmus explained that the focus is on establishing a reliable, scalable, and long-term competitive supply of green hydrogen for industry. The expansion creates the necessary conditions for further growth and strengthens Lubmin as a key component of the German hydrogen economy.
