OMV Receives Funding for a Large-Scale Plant for the Production of Green Hydrogen in Austria
After a positive assessment by the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB), the Austrian energy company OMV and Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) have signed a funding agreement for a green hydrogen production facility in Bruck an der Leitha. Starting in 2027, the plant is expected to produce up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, making it one of the five largest facilities of its kind in Europe.
Production support for OMV amounts to up to €123 million. This marks a decisive step toward Austria’s hydrogen strategy and is of central importance for the development of a European hydrogen market.
Alfred Stern, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV, stated that the assessment by the European Hydrogen Bank and the resulting funding from the Republic of Austria send a strong signal for sustainable energy supply and for Austria as an industrial location. With this project, OMV is setting a milestone for Europe’s energy transition and demonstrating how technological innovation and corporate responsibility can go hand in hand.
