RCT Hydrogen receives order for 10 MW project at Sines Port in Portugal

RCT Hydrogen, a Konstanz-based developer and manufacturer of systems for the production of green hydrogen, has received the purchase order and final investment decision for a turnkey 10 MW electrolyzer project at the Port of Sines in Portugal.

Following an intensive and detailed proposal phase, the final investment decision was made at the beginning of July: RCT Hydrogen will deliver a turnkey 10 MW electrolyzer for the Green Hydrogen Sines project and the project development company Beyond Green. Beyond Green is a Portuguese energy company and the special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the 10 MW project. The total project scope for RCT Hydrogen includes the full supply of all components required to connect the electrolyzer to the medium-voltage grid and to produce hydrogen using renewable electricity.

“The project fits perfectly into RCT Hydrogen’s portfolio,” says Dr. Eric Rüland, Vice President Sales and Products at RCT Hydrogen. “A robust alkaline electrolyzer technology enables efficient and reliable hydrogen production under the sunny Portuguese conditions.”

The proven technology used in RCT Hydrogen’s systems is known as alkaline pressure electrolysis and is recognized as a durable and efficient solution. Thanks to the high-quality standards of a German premium manufacturer and TÜV-certified technology, the first European customers have already been convinced to start hydrogen production in order to reduce CO₂ emissions in their manufacturing processes.

The project developer of the 10 MW electrolyzer project within the framework of the Sines Green Hydrogen Valley (SinesH2GValley) is Beyond Green Lda. The Portuguese company specializes in the design, engineering, construction, installation, and maintenance of energy and industrial gas systems. The final investment decision marked an important step toward the realization of this significant milestone.

Miguel Matias, Chairman of Beyond Green, states: “We are pleased to sign the turnkey contract with our partner RCT GH as a reliable supplier not only of the equipment, but also for commissioning and start-up of green hydrogen production. The timeline of starting deliveries in 2026 and achieving production start in summer 2027 is challenging, but achievable with the right partners.”

In addition to hydrogen production activities, the project also includes the development of critical downstream infrastructure, namely a network of green hydrogen refueling stations and ultra-fast electric vehicle charging points powered by renewable electricity, supported by hydrogen storage and fuel cells. This integrated approach addresses two major challenges of the energy transition: the limited availability of hydrogen refueling infrastructure and the growing demand for high-performance electric vehicle charging networks.

The cost-efficient production of green hydrogen is also enabled by the use of highly optimized production equipment. In this regard, RCT Hydrogen benefits from its partner Guofuhee, an experienced manufacturer and supplier of key components for hydrogen systems. RCT Hydrogen has established successful partnerships across the entire value chain, with key manufacturing steps planned to take place in Germany and Europe.
