Uniper Signs Long-term LNG Agreement with Canadian Supply Project

Uniper and Ksi Lisims LNG have signed a long-term supply and delivery agreement for liquefied natural gas (LNG). At the signing ceremony at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin, representatives of both companies were present alongside Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche and Canadian Ambassador to Germany, Vera Alexander. With this agreement, Germany and Canada conclude their first long-term LNG supply partnership and strengthen their strategic energy cooperation.

Just a few weeks earlier, energy trader SEFE had announced a long-term supply agreement with the Ksi-Lisims LNG project, which is now being followed by a binding delivery contract. This shows that within a short timeframe, two German energy companies have already secured long-term capacity at the Canadian project. This underscores efforts to diversify European energy supply and the importance of the Canadian project.

The liquefaction facility in Canada causes 90% fewer CO2 emissions than conventional liquefaction plants thanks to hydropower, according to the companies. Over a period of up to 20 years, Uniper will source two million tonnes of LNG annually on a Free-on-Board (FOB) basis.

First deliveries are expected from 2032 onwards. Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper, emphasized that the agreement goes far beyond simply sourcing LNG. With the long-term delivery contract, the company strengthens its portfolio with a reliable source of supply from Canada. As a trustworthy partner, Canada makes an important contribution to broadening European energy supply and increasing its resilience against future geopolitical challenges.
