Continuity, Growth and Security of Supply: Association Sets Course for the Future

• With 14 new companies and organizations, the association's network grows to 129 companies and partners.

With continuity at the top, a further expanding network, and new priorities focusing on security of supply, Die Gas- und Wasserstoffwirtschaft is setting clear priorities for the next phase of the energy transformation. For the association, a secure energy supply and the path to a climate-neutral energy system are inextricably linked. Hydrogen, renewable gases, and carbon management remain central pillars of its work.

At its most recent meeting, the Supervisory Board of Die Gas- und Wasserstoffwirtschaft made key personnel and strategic decisions. Andreas Gemballa, CEO of Uniper Energy Sales, was elected First Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board. At the same time, the Supervisory Board re-elected Dr. Timm Kehler to the association's board.

Dr. Friedbert Pflüger, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, explains, “With the re-election of Timm Kehler, we are ensuring continuity in a time of major energy policy challenges. He has successfully developed our association and will continue to represent the interests of the gas and hydrogen industry with a clear voice.”

The association's network is also continuing to grow. Key drivers of this growth are the association's thematic initiatives and platforms, in particular the Biomethane Taskforce and the DCMI. Among the 14 most recent additions are EDEKA Handelsgesellschaft Minden-Hannover, BALANCE Renewable Energies, VERBIO, and Fluxys Germany. At the current meeting, the Supervisory Board also welcomed LIQVIS as a new member. The company contributes its expertise in the field of LNG and bio-LNG for heavy-duty transport. The association now unites a total of 129 companies and partners in its member and platform formats.

With the Biomethane Taskforce (BMTF), founded in March 2026, the association has created a strong platform for the market ramp-up of biomethane. It pools expertise from production, trading, infrastructure, logistics, and application. In doing so, the association underscores the importance of renewable gases for climate protection, security of supply, and domestic value creation.

With the German Carbon Management Initiative (DCMI), the association is also actively committed to establishing a functioning CO₂ market. The goal is to bring together companies along the entire value chain – from CO₂ capture and transport to utilization and long-term storage – and to create reliable political and economic framework conditions for market ramp-up. Companies like Fluxys Germany and Everllence are expanding the initiative with additional expertise in infrastructure and industrial applications.

The Supervisory Board also decided to address the issue of security of supply even more intensively in the future. One focus will be on ensuring a secure gas supply via LNG imports to Germany. The second focus is on a reliable electricity supply at all times – particularly in light of the growing electricity demand of data centers, the importance of which is increasing significantly with the growing use of artificial intelligence.

Dr. Timm Kehler, Chairman of the Board of the association, emphasizes: “Security of supply and climate neutrality are not mutually exclusive. We must secure the energy supply today while simultaneously accelerating the ramp-up of hydrogen and renewable gases. Only in this way will the transformation stay on track.”
