Style and sustainability role model Emma Elwin interprets Didriksons' SS23 trench coat collection
Didriksons has invited Emma Elwin, the co-founder of the sustainable vintage shop Out for Lunch and style platform Make it last, to style their new collection of trench coats and inspire a timeless, classic wardrobe. They share the same view of always having the importance of timelessness and sustainability as their primary focus, and they want to inspire a sustainable wardrobe through long-lasting quality, responsible materials, and fewer purchases.
How to create a long-living or capsule wardrobe?
– I try to only invest in clothes that I can see myself wearing in ten years. I always ask myself if the garment I'm going to buy will go with at least eight pieces I already own, to know I will be able to wear it as much as possible. For me, a high-quality trench coat is one of the most timeless pieces of clothing as it always stays modern and relevant. The coat has been around for so long and can be worn throughout life, regardless of your style and age. Also, it's a perfect piece for the in-between seasons, and I like my outerwear slightly looser so I can wear a warm sweater underneath to use the jacket in early spring and well into autumn, says Emma Elwin.
How to style a trench coat?
– I wear my trench coat with jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers for the everyday outfit, but also with a silk dress and heels for a dinner date. It is easy to dress up and down – a piece that works with everything, always. I love to style monochrome outfits and here I have created looks in different shades of camel/khaki or navy, shades that complement each other. A beige trench coat looks so fresh and crisp when you match it with various shades of white. I like to invest in colours that I never get tired of, which is why my wardrobe consists of blue, black, brown, and beige garments but I add a colourful scarf or bag to spark it up. The fact that a coat works just as well with a dress as with trousers and has a silhouette that can be varied with an open or closed belt, makes the trench coat such an incredibly versatile piece for any occasion, Emma continues.
