Love is in the air: Amadeus data reveals where Scandinavians are headed this Valentine’s Day

Where are the most romantic cities to spend Valentine’s Day this year? It depends where you’re from.

There’s nothing like a surprise get-away to make a grand romantic gesture – especially on Valentine’s Day. Even single people may be inspired to travel this time of year in search of their very own “Before Sunrise” experience.

New data from Amadeus reveals where Scandinavian travelers want to spend their romantic holiday. London tops the list, followed by a mix of cities depending on the country: Norwegians are headed to Gdańsk and Copenhagen, while Swedes are looking to Paris and Stockholm, and Danes are eyeing Paris and Barcelona.

With its abundance of historic landmarks, incredible range of international cuisine and an endless selection of cozy pubs for intimate chats, there’s no doubt London has a romantic air, but others may be seeking a little less risk of rain in Spain or looking to visit family and friends nearby (in a neighboring country). Traditionally elegant or cosy restaurants with the backdrop of romantic architecture make a dinner for two in Paris an appealing thought for many couples.

Across the world, the top ten most romantic cities are Paris, London and Bangkok in the top three spots, followed by New York City, Las Vegas, Orlando, Tokyo, Rome, Seoul and Barcelona. It seems romance looks different depending on where you’re from, but European destinations are top of mind for just about everyone.

Belgian travelers are dreaming of southern Europe: Rome, Barcelona and Milan – each known for rich culture, a great nightlife and delicious cuisine are at the top of their list. Meanwhile, lovers from the Netherlands have their hearts set on London, Barcelona and Milan.

London, Rome and Barcelona are at the top of the list for French travelers.

Johan Nordqvist, VD Amadeus in Scandinavia says: “People are stepping away from virtual interactions, seeking genuine connections in real life. This is one of the 5 key travel trends this year according to our research. Many are increasingly embracing last-minute trips looking for new experiences. It’s no surprise that people are booking spontaneous romantic getaways for Valentine’s Day. Some want to spend time with their loved ones, while others are treating themselves to a "me moon" in the most unforgettable destinations. Travel companies can tap into this trend by offering flexible booking options, social experiences, and packages tailored to solo travelers.”
