Conrad Laursen challenged in difficult Silverstone race
The Ferrari driver finished outside the top 10 in a chaotic fifth round of the European Le Mans Series, where accidents, red flags and heavy rain played a decisive role.
It was far from the result Conrad Laursen, Davide Rigon and Charles-Henri Samani had hoped for, as they finished outside the points for the first time in the 2025 season during a spectacular European Le Mans Series race at Silverstone last weekend.
The AF Corse trio never got into contention for the trophies in the endurance race, which was red-flagged twice due to major collisions and eventually cut short because of intensifying rain. Rain that, incidentally, the organizers had predicted and therefore moved the start forward by two hours compared to the original schedule.
“It was in many ways a chaotic race. Unfortunately, we had to make an early pit stop to serve a 10-second penalty for an incorrect start, which cost us positions and left us with a lot of work from there,” said Conrad Laursen.
The Italian Ferrari team then pushed on and narrowly avoided the many crashes that triggered the two red flags and caused almost an hour of interruption to the race.
“When the race was restarted for the second time after a safety car, we spun off the track and ended up stuck in the gravel. Luckily, we were able to continue, but at that point the race was effectively over for us. We finished in 11th place, which of course we can’t be satisfied with. The only thing we can do now is put our heads down and push flat out for the finale,” Laursen added.
With 12 points to the first championship podium and 25 points to the race winners, there is still technically a chance for a championship trophy for Laursen, Rigon and Samani when the sixth and final round of the European Le Mans Series takes place at Portimão on October 18.
Before that, Conrad Laursen will already be back in action next weekend in Valencia, where the Dane returns with Kessel Racing and continues his fight for championship titles in GT World Challenge Europe.
