Frederik Schandorff Secures IMSA Podium at Watkins Glen
The Danish Ferrari driver claimed his first IMSA podium of the season with a second-place finish in this weekend’s six-hour race at Watkins Glen.
After a mixed start to the 2025 season, Frederik Schandorff and the Inception Racing team finally secured a podium in this year’s six-hour race at Watkins Glen. The former Formula 1 circuit in New York hosted a race where changing weather conditions added an extra layer of drama and excitement.
Schandorff and his teammates, Brendan Iribe and Oliver Milroy, started from 12th on the grid in the 20-car GTD field. During the action-packed race, they fought their way steadily through the pack. By the halfway point, the yellow Ferrari 296 GT3 had already climbed to third overall and had taken the lead in the Bronze Cup class from the very start. When Schandorff crossed the line after his final stint, it was in second place overall in GTD – and as the fastest Bronze Cup entry.
“It was a good and important race! Our goal was to defend our lead in the Endurance Cup championship and secure the Bronze Cup class win – and we achieved both. On top of that, taking an overall podium in GTD as the fastest Ferrari and beating some of the factory’s own Le Mans winners is just perfect. When we can perform at this level, it gives us a massive boost and proves that all the hard work is paying off. Huge thanks to the whole team for an outstanding effort,” said Frederik Schandorff.
With the trophy packed, Frederik Schandorff is already on his way to his next endurance challenge. The Dane will contest this year’s edition of the legendary 24 Hours of Spa, taking place at the Belgian Formula 1 circuit this coming weekend.
