GTWC: Sebastian Øgaard Hoping for More Podium Results at Zandvoort
Following a successful test at Spa-Francorchamps, Sebastian Øgaard is back in action this weekend at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, where the third round of the GT World Challenge Europe takes place.
It's a busy week for Øgaard, who took part in the official prologue for the upcoming 24 Hours of Spa on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Zandvoort. The Danish driver is competing this weekend in the third round of the GT World Challenge Europe on the Dutch Formula 1 circuit.
Just like at Brands Hatch two weeks ago, this is a round of the Sprint Cup championship, which means two 60-minute sprint races – and Øgaard is naturally hoping for a repeat of the double podium he and Tresor Competition teammate Leonardo Moncini secured in England.
“Of course, we're aiming to keep up the momentum, even though it will probably be more challenging this time, as I haven’t driven Zandvoort in a GT car before. That said, I have good memories of the track, having taken two podiums there in the Eurocup-3 single-seater series in 2023. Qualifying will be extremely important, so I hope we can quickly find the pace and the right setup. I’m feeling quite optimistic,” says Sebastian Øgaard.
“As for preparations for the 24 Hours of Spa, I’m also feeling positive. I think we had a really good two-day test where we completed a lot of laps and gathered valuable data. I’ve settled in incredibly well – both within the team and in our Audi R8 GT3 – and that definitely boosts my motivation and belief that we can fight at the front,” the Dane adds.
The third round of the GT World Challenge Europe – the second round of the Sprint Cup championship – takes place on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, with race starts scheduled for 15:00 and 14:45 local time, respectively. Øgaard and Moncini are competing in the Gold Cup class. Both races will be streamed live on YouTube.
