Luca Magnussen aiming for McLaren Trophy title
With a narrow championship lead, the young Danish racing talent heads into the McLaren Trophy Europe season finale feeling confident and determined to secure the title.
Luca Magnussen faces a decisive weekend as he prepares for the McLaren Trophy Europe season finale at Portimão in Portugal. The 17-year-old racing talent from Roskilde, Denmark, enters the final round as championship leader, hoping to secure the title alongside his British Paddock Motorsport teammate, Callum Davies.
With a lead of just three points – and 12 points awarded to the winners of each of the weekend's two races – a thrilling finale is in prospect. Three teams remain in contention for the championship, but confidence is high within the Danish-British pairing, who have secured at least one podium finish at every round so far this season.
“We've been pretty consistent and scored good points at every round, so the plan for this final weekend is simply to keep doing what we've been doing. We don't necessarily need to win the races, but we need to maximise our points and keep our rivals behind us. It's all about getting the strategy right, avoiding mistakes and staying focused on the goal,” says Luca Magnussen.
With five podium finishes from eight races, Magnussen has enjoyed an impressive debut season in GT racing. The young Dane moved to McLaren Trophy Europe after completing a full season in the British GB4 single-seater championship last year and quickly adapted to the powerful McLaren Artura GT4. His ambition is now to pursue a career in sports car racing.
“Right now, the main focus is on finishing McLaren Trophy Europe on top. Winning the championship would be absolutely fantastic, not just for me and my dream of becoming a professional racing driver, but also for all the sponsors and partners who have supported me throughout the season,” Magnussen adds.
The young talent has received support from international premium meat producer SASHI Beef Lover, Danish cybersecurity company Admin By Request and a number of other partners who have helped make his McLaren Trophy Europe campaign possible.
“I have a really good feeling heading into the weekend, and after a day of testing, things are looking pretty promising. The championship is still incredibly close, so anything can happen in the final two races. But I'm optimistic, and we'll obviously do everything we can to bring home the title,” concludes Luca Magnussen.
The fifth and final round of the 2026 McLaren Trophy Europe season takes place at Portimão, featuring two 45-minute races. Race one gets underway on Saturday, 17 October at 13:45 local time (GMT +1), while the final race of the season starts on Sunday, 18 October at 15:35. Both races will be streamed live on YouTube
