McLaren Trophy leader Luca Magnussen enters uncharted territory

Young Danish sports car talent Luca Magnussen is aiming to extend his lead in the McLaren Trophy Europe standings as the third round of the fiercely competitive junior championship takes place this weekend.

Having secured podium finishes in both of the season's opening rounds, Luca Magnussen is determined to continue his strong run of results when McLaren Trophy Europe heads to Italy's Misano World Circuit this weekend. Together with his Paddock Motorsport teammate, Callum Davies, the 16-year-old rising star currently leads the highly competitive one-make championship. Although Magnussen will once again compete on a circuit he has never raced before, confidence remains high ahead of the third round.

"It will definitely be a challenging weekend. First of all, it's my debut at Misano. It's an extremely technical circuit that takes time to learn, and several of my rivals already have plenty of experience here. That naturally makes it more difficult to find the optimal setup for the car. And to top it all off, we're expecting extremely hot conditions, with temperatures approaching 40 degrees. Fortunately, we're running three cars in the team this weekend. That gives us much more data to analyse, allows us to test different setups simultaneously and helps us find the right direction much faster," says Luca Magnussen.

Luca Magnussen – son of Le Mans legend Jan Magnussen and younger brother of long-time Formula 1 driver and recent FIA World Endurance Championship race winner Kevin Magnussen – will once again compete in his 600-horsepower McLaren Artura Trophy, carrying the colours of partners including SASHI Beefflower and Admin By Request.

"That said, I'm not nervous. We're arriving with strong momentum after Spa-Francorchamps last month, where I also had a lot to learn in a very short space of time. Despite that, we came away with two podium finishes and took over the championship lead. We've shown that we're able to adapt quickly and get ourselves into a position where we can fight at the front, and that's exactly what we aim to do again this weekend."

The third round of the 2026 McLaren Trophy Europe season at Misano World Circuit will consist of two 45-minute races, scheduled to start at 16:10 on Saturday and 17:00 on Sunday. Both races will be streamed live on YouTube.
