Luca Magnussen ready to race again after surgery
A bout of appendicitis briefly interrupted Luca Magnussen’s GB4 season, but the young Dane is now back on track and ready to resume his campaign in the British junior championship.
Earlier this summer, Luca Magnussen was forced to withdraw from the fourth round of the GB4 Championship. The reason was an inflamed appendix, which had to be removed in an emergency operation – but just a few days later, the 15-year-old racing talent was already back in the simulator, preparing for the next round of the British junior series.
“It was really a shame to miss a round, but there wasn’t much I could do. It was a standard operation. Now that it’s removed, I won’t have to think about it in the future when I move up to the bigger series,” says Luca Magnussen.
Magnussen – son of Jan and younger brother of Kevin – has strong backing from the meat company JN Meat International and SASHI Beef Lover, and has enjoyed a promising season so far. In just the third round at Oulton Park, the Danish rookie scored an impressive podium finish after starting outside the top 10, which has given him an extra motivational boost.
“I’m itching to get back on track. I’ve spent the time improving my physical condition and, of course, putting in lots of hours in the simulator, which is my most important training tool. I’m up against some tough competitors with more experience on the British circuits than I have, so the more training, the better,” explains Luca Magnussen.
“A big thanks to SASHI Beef Lover, my network of sponsors, and my family, who have supported me and stood behind me all the way. We’re in the middle of an important season, and it wasn’t fun to sit out, but now we’re looking ahead, and I’m ready to keep fighting.”
The sixth round of the GB4 Championship takes place on the weekend of 2–3 August at the legendary British Formula 1 circuit, Silverstone.
