GB4 Championship: Luca Magnussen challenged at Brands Hatch

The Danish single-seater talent remains optimistic after a tough sixth round of the British GB4 Championship, held at Brands Hatch.

Luca Magnussen’s ambitions for top results were not fulfilled as he lined up for the sixth round of the GB4 Championship last weekend at Brands Hatch. The Danish youngster struggled for pace in the fiercely competitive field of talented junior drivers and had to settle for 14th place in the weekend’s first race, while the second race ended in the gravel.

The SASHI Beef Lover-backed Magnussen didn’t even get the chance to make a comeback, as the weekend’s third and final race was cancelled due to a major delay in the schedule at the British circuit.

“This was a very disappointing weekend, no doubt about it. I simply didn’t have the pace with me this time. Our opportunities to prepare weren’t as good as during the earlier weekends of the season, as the various sessions were marked by lots of traffic on track and several interruptions,” said Luca Magnussen.

However, the Dane did manage to fight his way up a few positions in the weekend’s first race, finishing three places higher than he started – and he was also moving forward in the second race when, unfortunately, he was hit by a competitor and forced to retire.

“Points-wise we didn’t bring much home, but I’ve learned a lot which I can take with me going forward. Once you’ve tried being on the podium, it’s hard to be satisfied with anything else, but we’re actually following the plan and I’m optimistic. It’s my first year in the series, and the focus is on gaining as much experience as possible. The next race is at Donington Park, where we also had the season opener, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.”

The next challenge for Luca Magnussen and the rest of the Fortec Motorsports team is the seventh and final round of the season, which takes place at Donington Park on 4–5 October.
